Dr. Mark Schmidhofer

Dr. Prem Soman, MD, PhD, is a cardiologist certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is an associate professor of medicine (cardiology) and clinical and translational science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is director of the Cardiac Amyloidosis Center and nuclear cardiology at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute. Dr. Soman had his initial medical training in India, followed by a Ph.D. from the UK, residency at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, Pa., and fellowships in cardiology and advanced cardiac imaging at the Tufts Medical Center, Boston, Mass. Dr. Soman sees patients with a variety of cardiac conditions including coronary disease, hypertension, arrhythmias, heart failure, and pericardial disease. He is a specialist in cardiac amyloidosis and nuclear cardiology, fields in which he is well-known for his research and numerous peer-reviewed publications. He has held many leadership positions in national societies including the American College of Cardiology and was President of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology in 2018.
