Ichthyosis bullosa of Siemens (IBS) is an inherited (genetic) skin disorder characterized by general reddening of the skin with blistering that leads to thick, dry, fish-scale-like skin that flakes (molting), especially on areas where the skin is flexed, as well as the shins, abdomen, and extremities.

Symptoms of ichthyosis bullosa of Siemens may include general reddening of the skin; widespread blistering; dark grey, thickened areas of the skin, especially on arms, legs, and areas where skin flexes around major joints; bruising easily; and thickening of palms and soles.

Treatment for ichthyosis bullosa of Siemens is focused on alleviating symptoms and may include daily bathing and the use of topical alpha hydroxy acids, moisturizers, glycerin, urea, lactic acid, and antibiotics.
