Overview
As a non-invasive cardiologist at Triangle Heart Associates, I focus on chronic disease diagnosis and management. I work with patients who have a broad range of primary cardiac problems. Some patients don’t yet have a cardiac diagnosis and are referred here where we make the diagnosis and provide lifelong treatment. A big part of my job is educating patients. I hope when they leave the office they understand why they’re taking certain medicines and getting specific treatments. I become very close with the patients I see over a long period of time. It’s rewarding to see the impact you have on those people. It’s hard to beat Duke in the quality of care in cardiology and the breadth of services available.

Clinical research consists of overseeing clinical studies of patients undergoing new treatments and therapies, and publishing articles in peer reviewed medical journals. Providers who actively participate in clinical research are generally at the forefront of the fields and aware of the most up-to-date advances in treatments for their patients.

I am a cardiologist trained and experienced in preventive cardiology. I have served as the medical director of the Duke Cardiac Rehabilitation Program (formerly DUPAC) since 1994. I specialize in the prevention and treatment of heart disease risk factors before and after cardiac disease develops. I direct a program that uses the principles of balancing energy intake and expenditure to treat heart disease and metabolic diseases, such as diabetes. I also have an active practice for assessment and advice for the older athlete who wants to improve performance – whether he or she has heart disease or not.
